Lippizan is a woody-chypre eau de toilette for men by Sidonie Lancesseur, launched in 2009 and inspired by the Lipizzaner horse. It opens with clary sage, thyme, tarragon, cardamom, Amalfi lemon and bergamot, develops galbanum, vetiver, Virginia cedar, jasmine, rose, iris and patchouli in the heart, and settles into oakmoss, leather, musk, amber and vanilla.
To me this smells like a polo club at dawn — the horses are being walked, and the air is full of leather and green. Clary sage, thyme, tarragon, cardamom: a whole herb garden crushed underfoot, with Amalfi lemon cutting through like morning light. Galbanum brings that bitter green snap, vetiver and Virginia cedar build the stable-yard woods, and then the base goes full classic: oakmoss, leather, musk, amber, vanilla. It's a chypre with a whip in its hand — mossy, leathery, uncompromising. Old-money masculinity, the kind that doesn't explain itself. Respect it, or wear something else. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
