Composition
A chypre-fruity from L'Oeuvre Noire by Calice Becker on the theme of a secret love affair. Peach, plum, black currant and coconut open into rose, geranium, ambrette and cinnamon, over musk, sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver, vanilla, amber and cedar.
To me this smells like a love affair that was never supposed to happen. Peach, plum, black currant and coconut open lush and forbidden — fruit eaten in secret, juice on fingers. Then the rose arrives, dark and romantic, with geranium green at the edges, ambrette adding a musky warmth, cinnamon spicing it like whispered promises. The base is the morning after: musk and sandalwood on skin, oakmoss and vetiver like rumpled sheets, vanilla and amber and cedar warm and lingering. A chypre with a pulse. Dangerous only in the way the best love stories are. Beginner-friendly.
