Composition
Les Heures de Cartier: L'Heure Mystérieuse XII is an oriental spicy fragrance for women and men launched in 2009 by Mathilde Laurent. It intoxicates with jasmine, patchouli, elemi resin, coriander, incense and nutmeg — a smoky, resinous interplay of incense and patchouli. It was released as a 75 ml eau de parfum.
To me this smells like stepping into a 400-year-old church in Old Goa after midnight, when the last candle has gone out but the smoke hasn't. Elemi resin and incense hang in the cold air, sweet and churchy, with jasmine garlands left on the altar going soft and narcotic in the dark. Nutmeg and coriander drift through like something from the sacristy — old wood, old cloth, old secrets. It never brightens, never opens a window. It just deepens into patchouli and shadow, the smell of a locked room you're standing outside of, listening. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
