Composition
Les Heures de Cartier: L'Heure Fougueuse IV is a chypre fragrance for women and men launched in 2011 by Mathilde Laurent. Built around an unusual horse's-mane accord, it blends bergamot and magnolia with aromatic notes of maté, vetiver and lavender. The base combines leather, musk and oakmoss for a half-animal, half-botanical effect evoking freedom in the warmth of thunderstruck hay. It is an eau de toilette.
To me this smells like an old hunting lodge at dawn, before anyone else is awake. Magnolia and bergamot open like pale flowers on a windowsill, but then the real room reveals itself — worn leather tack, oakmoss on stone floors, mate tea gone cold in a tin cup. There's an animal warmth underneath, the smell of a horse's flank, of something alive and untamed. Lavender and vetiver try to keep it civilized. They almost succeed. This is perfume for people who find beauty in the feral — it will not be tamed, and it will not apologize. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
