Composition
Launched in 2016 in the Le Gemme Men collection, inspired by black onyx. Mandarin essence and geranium open over malacensis oud and smoked labdanum, with black incense, caramel and sandalwood in the base. A mysterious ambery oud.
To me this smells like black onyx held up to candlelight — dark, gleaming, and faintly ominous. Mandarin and geranium open with a brief flash of brightness, like a match struck in a dark room, and then the oud arrives: deep, resinous, unmistakably animal in its richness, wrapped in smoked labdanum like embers in ash. Black incense smoulders through the base, ancient and ceremonial, with caramel adding a strange, dark sweetness — like something precious being slowly consumed by fire — and sandalwood underneath, smooth as polished stone. It is mysterious the way the deep ocean is mysterious: beautiful, and not entirely safe. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
