Composition
Launched in 1991. Rose, currant buds, tagetes, chamomile and neroli open over rose, patchouli, mimosa and ylang-ylang, with musk, castoreum, labdanum and sandalwood in the base. A rich, animalic rose in the classic Gucci idiom.
This is an old rose garden behind a library — roses first, dark and velvety, currant buds and tagetes adding green bite, chamomile and neroli softening the edges. Then patchouli and ylang turn it earthy and rich, like petals fallen on dark soil. Castoreum and labdanum in the base are the shock: animalic, leathery, almost feral — the smell of old books and older secrets. Musk and sandalwood try to civilize it, and mostly succeed. It smells like 1991 in the best way: bold, strange, and completely itself. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
