Composition
Dominique Ropion's 1996 oriental-spicy creation wraps the wearer in a dense tropical bouquet. Cloves, cumin and cardamom clash with mango, gardenia and ylang-ylang before settling on vanilla, amber and patchouli. Bold, exotic and instantly recognizable.
To me this smells like getting lost in a spice market that opens straight into a jungle. Cloves, cumin and cardamom hit first — not the polite background-spice kind, but the full raw assault of a masala dabba knocked open, with caraway and licorice adding a strange dark sweetness. Mango and gardenia bloom through the heat like something tropical refusing to be intimidated. Underneath, vanilla, amber and patchouli turn it into something dense and animal-warm, like the breath of a large animal in humid air. It is bold, exotic, and completely uninterested in your comfort. A masterpiece you have to earn. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
