Composition
Incitatus (2014) is a leather-amber composition inspired by Caligula's beloved racehorse of the same name. It opens with a bright burst of bergamot, settles into a dry hay-and-laurel heart, then warms into leather, frankincense and opoponax.
Named for the emperor Caligula's pampered racehorse, Incitatus smells like the imperial stables: a swift blast of bergamot gives way to dry hay and bay leaves, then to a smoky base of leather, olibanum and opoponax. It is bold, resinous and unapologetically animalic in the best sense. Beginners should sample first — this is a statement leather, not a safe one.
