Composition
Hugo Energise, launched in 2005, is a fresh spicy eau de toilette for men. Pink pepper, lemon, kumquat, pineapple leaf, mint, mandarin orange and cardamom open the scent, with nutmeg, jasmine, juniper, freesia, coriander and clary sage at the heart. Vanilla, leather and teak wood form the dry-down.
To me this smells like a cold shower after a long run — pink pepper and lemon snapping in the first breath, kumquat and mandarin zesty and bright, mint cold as water. Pineapple leaf and cardamom keep it green and electric, never sweet. The drydown is surprisingly warm — a whisper of vanilla, teak wood like a sauna bench, the faintest leather. It is pure energy, the scent equivalent of being annoyingly awake. Clary sage keeps the freshness humming for hours, green and a little wild. Beginner-friendly.
