Composition
Dahlia Noir is a Chypre Floral fragrance for women launched in 2011, the first fragrance created under creative director Riccardo Tisci. Presented as a "Fatal Flower" for mysterious and fascinating women, it is a powdery dusty chypre-floral: top notes of mandarin, pink pepper and mimosa lead to an intensive heart of rose, iris and patchouli, wrapped in a base of sandalwood, vanilla and tonka bean.
To me this smells like a femme fatale's dressing room in an old film — pink pepper and mimosa opening with a sparkling, powdery brightness, mandarin and bergamot like stage lights. And then the iris arrives: cool, powdery, expensive, with rose and patchouli giving it that dark, velvety, chypre depth. Riccardo Tisci called it a Fatal Flower, and the powder has a knife in it. Sandalwood, tonka, vanilla, and oakmoss in the base keep it warm and lingering. It is mysterious and powdery and grown-up — a scent for a woman who knows exactly what she's doing. Beginner-friendly.
