Composition
One of three fragrances in the Gianni Versace Couture collection launched in 2014, Couture Jasmin is a tribute to Donatella Versace's favourite flower. Perfumer Antoine Maisondieu built it around jasmine, ylang-ylang and rose, warmed by benzoin. The flacon is dressed in pale blue leather with stitched Greek motifs.
To me this smells like Donatella's favourite flower, given the full couture treatment — ylang-ylang opening creamy and golden, jasmine blooming huge and indolic at the centre, rose softening the edges like pale blue leather. Benzoin warms the base with a soft balsamic glow. It is simple in the way only great things are simple: one flower, done perfectly, with nothing to hide behind. A tribute that earns the word. Ylang-ylang opens creamy and almost custardy before the jasmine takes over. Beginner-friendly.
