Composition
Coffee Break is a unisex eau de toilette from Maison Margiela, launched in 2019. It opens with Pepper, Orange Blossom and Patchouli. The heart reveals Lavender, Coffee, Milk, Tonka Bean, Siam Benzoin and Cypriol Oil Or Nagarmotha settling into a base of Vanilla, Cedar and Vetiver. Its character is defined by Lavender, Vanilla and Coffee accords.
To me this smells like a Milan café at 8am, when the espresso machine is working hardest. Coffee hits first — dark, roasted, gloriously bitter — then milk softens it into the perfect cappuccino, with lavender adding a strange, herbal brightness overhead like the flower boxes outside. Pepper crackles at the edges, and orange blossom drifts through like someone's perfume at the next table. Tonka, vanilla and benzoin settle underneath, sweet and warm as the cup in your hands. It's the best part of the morning, bottled. Beginner-friendly.
