Composition
Launched in 2009, CK Free is a woody eau de toilette for men. Juniper Berries, Star Anise and Wormwood form the opening, leading into a heart of Suede and Tobacco. Virginia Cedar and Oak form the base.
To me this smells like a road trip through the Western Ghats with the windows down — juniper berries and star anise sharp in the mountain air, wormwood bitter-green, and jackfruit: that unmistakable tropical sweetness, like a fruit stall appearing around a hairpin bend. Suede and tobacco soften the middle like a well-worn driving jacket, coffee from the flask in the cup holder, buchu adding a strange green snap. Cedar and oak dry it down like the wooden dashboard, patchouli just grounding the whole adventure. Free as in the feeling, not the price. Though the feeling is the point. Beginner-friendly.
