Composition
Launched in 1978, Calvin Klein is a floral parfum for women. The opening blends Hyacinth, Aldehydes and Gardenia, followed by Rose and Carnation in the heart. The dry-down rests on Oakmoss and Amber.
To me this smells like a 1978 photograph come to life — aldehydes sparkling like champagne, hyacinth green and dewy, gardenia creamy as old film. Peach and raspberry blush through the florals, rose and carnation spicy-sweet, lily of the valley and jasmine like a corsage. Orris root powders everything soft. Oakmoss, amber, sandalwood and cedar ground it in the era: earthy, warm, unmistakably vintage. It is a time machine in a bottle — and it still works. The orris root holds the whole vintage composition together like a good spine on an old book. Beginner-friendly.
