Composition
Afrika Olifant is an animalic extrait that opens with ambergris, frankincense, myrrh and labdanum. Its heart blends castoreum, civet, leather and oud, settling into a base of musk notes.
To me this smells like the African bush at dusk, when the day's heat finally breaks and everything wild comes out to breathe. Frankincense and myrrh smoulder first, like resin tears dropped onto campfire coals, over the strange salty-sweet depth of ambergris. Then the animals arrive — castoreum and civet, unapologetically animalic, the smell of a living hide, warm and musky and faintly dangerous, with oud and leather riding underneath like a worn saddle. It softens eventually into something like skin that has slept too close to the fire, all musk and warm dust. This is not a perfume that asks permission; it walks into the room like it owns the watering hole. One spray and you are not wearing a fragrance, you are wearing the wild itself.
