Composition
Xeryus Rouge is an Oriental Fougere fragrance for men launched in 1995, created by Annick Menardo — a deeper and more sensual Xeryus and the first oriental perfume for men by Givenchy. Fresh and green top notes of cactus, kumquat and tarragon lead to a warm heart of cedar needles, red pimento and African geranium, over a precious, austere base of cedar, sandalwood, white musk and grey amber.
To me this smells like a desert sunset bottled by someone who understands restraint. Cactus, kumquat and tarragon open fresh and green — strange, arid, almost succulent, like plants that survive on nothing. Red pimento and African geranium warm the heart with a deep red spice, the color of the bottle made smell. Cedar, sandalwood, white musk and grey amber dry it down precious and austere, like warm stone cooling at night. The first oriental for men from the house, and still one of the most elegant: deeper and more sensual than its green predecessor, but never heavy. Beginner-friendly.
