Scent story

Incense opens like smoke curling off temple coals, and then the oud arrives — dark, resinous, animal-warm, like the inside of an old wooden chest. Amber and musk melt underneath, golden and smooth, turning the smoke into something almost soft. To me it smells like a desert at midnight, a campfire long burned down to embers, the air thick with memory. Velvet is the right word: this darkness has a texture, and it does not lift for anyone. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
