Composition
Unutamam, created with fragrance creator Miguel Matos as the first entry in Nishane's Experimental Collection, is an aromatic-spicy extrait. It opens with lavender, rosemary, mint and juniper, develops a heart of jasmine, carnation, patchouli, amber and oregano, and settles into castoreum, cistus, oakmoss and caramel.
To me this smells like a wild herb field at the edge of civilisation — beautiful, but something feral is watching from the treeline. Lavender, rosemary, mint and juniper open green and aromatic, crisp as mountain air, and for a moment it is almost innocent. Almost. Jasmine, carnation, patchouli, amber and oregano deepen the heart into something wilder — flowers going strange, herbs going dark — and then the castoreum arrives: warm, leathery, unmistakably animal, like a hide stretched in the sun, with cistus, oakmoss and caramel smouldering underneath. It is unforgettable the way a half-remembered dream is unforgettable — and just as impossible to explain. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
