Composition
A Private Blend woody-spicy launched in November 2013, created by Olivier Gillotin. Whiskey opens the scent; the heart is spicy notes, cinnamon and coriander; the base blends tobacco, agarwood oud, incense, sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, vanilla and cedar. It pairs precious oud resin with an idealized Arabic tobacco accord inspired by dokha, a blend of herbs, flowers and spiced tobacco.
To me this smells like the back room of a dokha café in old Dubai, where the air is thick enough to chew. Whiskey opens dark and oaky, and then the spices come — cinnamon, coriander — warming the famous tobacco-oud heart until it glows. The tobacco is idealized Arabic dokha: herbs, flowers, spiced leaf, smoldering slowly. The agarwood oud underneath is deep resin, not the barnyard kind, but it doesn't pretend to be light. Incense, sandalwood, patchouli, benzoin, vanilla and cedar build a base like the inside of a well-kept humidor. Rich, smoky, and built for nights that matter. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
