Composition
The Night is a unisex eau de parfum from Frederic Malle, launched in 2003. It opens with Turkish Rose and Saffron. The heart reveals Indian Oud settling into a base of Amber, Incense and Sandalwood. Its character is defined by Rose, Amber and Oud accords.
To me this smells like Istanbul at 2am, when the city belongs to the night. Turkish rose blooms first — dark, honeyed, almost black — then the Indian oud rises: animalic, resinous, ancient as the city walls, with saffron threading red-gold through the darkness. Incense smoulders underneath like the last coals in a brazier. Amber and sandalwood hold it all, warm and endless. This is not a fragrance; it's a whole night — opulent, shadowed, and utterly unforgettable. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
