Composition
Spice and Wood is an oriental-woody eau de parfum for women and men by Olivier Creed, launched in 2010 as the second release in Creed's Royal Exclusives line. It opens with apple, lemon and bergamot, develops pepper, birch, clove, angelica and patchouli in the heart, and settles into cedar, oakmoss, musk and iris.
To me this opens like biting into a crisp apple while someone zests a lemon beside you, then the pepper hits. Birch, clove, angelica and patchouli build a dry, smoky spice heart that feels like a gentleman's study: cedar panels, old books, a fire going. Oakmoss, musk and iris in the base powder it down to something almost soft. It is Creed's idea of rugged, refined, expensive rugged. The spice is persistent and the birch has a leathery smokiness that keeps it serious. Easy to admire, harder to wear casually. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
