Composition
Ylang-YlangRive Gauche by Yves Saint Laurent is a captivating fragrance featuring floral, aldehydic accords. It opens with Aldehydes, Bergamot, transitions to a heart of Rose, Ylang-Ylang, and settles into a base of Oakmoss, Vetiver. A timeless creation for the modern connoisseur.
To me it smells like the Left Bank of Paris in 1970, all chic and smoke and intent. Aldehydes open it — powdery, soapy, unmistakably vintage — with bergamot flashing bright beside them. Rose and ylang-ylang bloom through the middle, lush and a little wild, and then oakmoss, vetiver and musk settle it into something green and earthy and deeply French. It is not a modern scent and it doesn't want to be. It is a time machine to when perfume had opinions. Not for beginners — this is old-school Paris. Sample it first.
