Composition
Polo Green is the original 1978 Ralph Lauren fragrance for men, a legendary woody-chypre created by Carlos Benaïm. Green juniper, basil and bergamot open over a pine-and-leather heart with chamomile and spices, drying down to tobacco, oakmoss, patchouli and amber. It arrives in the iconic emerald-green bottle with the gold polo player emblem.
This is what old-money American masculinity smelled like: the opening is a blast of green — juniper berries, basil, artemisia — like crushing herbs on a forest trail. The heart is pine needles, leather and pepper with old-school florals underneath, and the base is a warm, mossy blanket of tobacco, oakmoss and amber. It is unapologetically strong, dry and retro; modern noses may find it dated, devotees call it timeless. Best in Indian winters and for formal evening wear — it demands a suit and confidence. Not a beginner fragrance; sample first and respect its power.
