To me this smells like a black-tie evening reflected in polished dark wood. Bergamot, Sichuan pepper and ginger open with a brilliant flash — citrus and spice striking like a match — and then it goes deep: spices and galbanum over jasmine, green and shadowy, like a garden glimpsed through dark glass. Sandalwood, cedar and ebony build the base, with birch, leather and patchouli adding smoke and depth, amberwood glowing underneath. It is dark, yes, but polished rather than brutal — the brilliance of the opening set against rich black woods. Refined darkness. Beginner-friendly.
