Composition
Metallique is a floral aldehyde Eau de Parfum launched in 2019 in Tom Ford's Signature collection. A high-shine armor of aldehydes with bergamot and pink pepper opens over a white-floral heart of heliotrope, hawthorn and lily-of-the-valley. The base is warm and creamy with ambrette seed, Peru balsam, vanilla and sandalwood.
To me this smells like liquid metal poured over white flowers — aldehydes flashing bright and cold at the opening with bergamot and pink pepper, and then heliotrope, hawthorn and lily-of-the-valley blooming powdery and soft underneath the shine. Vanilla, ambrette, Peru balsam and sandalwood warm the base into something creamy and skin-like. High-shine armor with a soft heart — futuristic, but make it comforting. The ambrette seed in the base gives it a musky, skin-like warmth that slowly melts the metal into something human. It is the rare aldehydic that doesn't smell vintage — it smells like tomorrow.
