Yves Saint Laurent Kouros is an aromatic fougère eau de toilette for men, launched in 1981. It opens with aldehydes, coriander, clary sage, artemisia and bergamot, has a heart of patchouli, carnation, cinnamon, vetiver, geranium, jasmine and orris root, and a base of civet, honey, leather, musk, oakmoss, amber, tonka bean and vanilla. Its name and character are inspired by the kouroi statues of ancient Greece.
Scent story
To me this smells like a Greek god walking out of a sauna into a thunderstorm. Aldehydes and coriander crackle first, sharp and soapy-clean, artemisia bitter-green behind them. The heart crushes spice and flowers together — carnation, cinnamon, patchouli, vetiver — and then the base: civet, honey, leather, musk, the famous animalic growl over oakmoss and amber. It is sweat and marble, honey and thunder, civilization barely holding back the beast. Nothing else smells like it. Nothing else dares. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
