Composition
Imitation Woman is a floral-aldehydic eau de parfum for women by Pierre Negrin, launched in 2018 and paying tribute to Studio 54-era New York. It opens with rose, ylang-ylang, orange blossom and jasmine, develops blackcurrant buds, aldehydes and licorice in the heart, and settles into incense, sandalwood and patchouli.
To me this smells like Studio 54 at midnight — rose, ylang-ylang, orange blossom and jasmine arriving in a blaze of aldehydic glitter, all mirror balls and champagne. The aldehydes fizz like champagne bubbles, bright and fizzy and unmistakably glamorous. Blackcurrant buds and licorice twist the sweetness into something darker and more interesting, and then incense, sandalwood and patchouli drag the whole thing into the early hours — the glamorous aftermath. It is big, theatrical, and completely unapologetic. A disco in a bottle. Beginner-friendly.
