Imitation Man is a floral-leather chypre eau de parfum for men by Leslie Girard, launched in 2018 and inspired by 1970s New York. It opens with cedrat, nutmeg and black pepper, develops Turkish rose, orris and violet in the heart, and settles into myrrh, leather, vetiver, patchouli and castoreum.
Scent story
To me this is 1970s New York in a bottle. Cedrat and black pepper snap like a fresh shirt, nutmeg warming the collar. Then it turns strange and beautiful: Turkish rose and powdery orris and violet over a chypre heart, like a florist's shop next door to a tannery. The base is where it bites, myrrh, leather, vetiver, patchouli, and castoreum, that animalic growl smelling faintly of worn leather and something wilder. It is brilliant, difficult, and utterly uncompromising. A masterpiece you have to earn. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
