Composition
Hugo Woman, launched in 1997, is a fresh green-floral eau de toilette for women. Granny smith apple, melon, peach, cyclamen, cassis, oak moss and papaya open the scent, with water hyacinth, lily, jasmine and orris root at the heart. Virginia cedar, orchid, sandalwood, vanille, resin and amber form the dry-down.
To me this is the nineties bottled at their best. Granny Smith apple and melon and peach and papaya — a whole fruit salad, bright and a little synthetic in the way we all loved back then — over water hyacinth and lily and jasmine, green and aquatic and fresh. Cyclamen and cassis keep it from being just juice. Orris, cedar, sandalwood, vanilla, resin and amber dry it down soft and powdery, like the memory of a summer that never ended. It's dated in the way a favorite old song is dated — which is to say, not at all, if you love it. Beginner-friendly.
