Composition
Explorer, launched in February 2019, is Montblanc's new male pillar — a woody-aromatic-leather Eau de Parfum created by Jordi Fernández, Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux. OrPur bergamot, pink pepper and French sage open over Haitian vetiver and leather, with a base of Indonesian patchouli, cacao, Ambrofix and akigalawood. The elongated bottle is wrapped in a Saffiano-motif leather-effect sheath with the white star.
To me this smells like a well-packed rucksack and a one-way ticket. Bergamot and pink pepper fizz at the opening, fresh and a little daring, and then Haitian vetiver and leather take over — earthy, rugged, unmistakably outdoorsy. The ambroxan and akigalawood base gives it that modern woody-amber hum that just goes on and on, with patchouli and cacao adding depth. It is not trying to be art; it is trying to be the smell of someone who has stories. Beginner-friendly.
