Composition
Eau de Rhubarbe Écarlate is a unisex eau de cologne from Hermès, launched in 2016. It opens with Rhubarb. The heart reveals Red Berries and Lantana settling into a base of White Musk. Its character is defined by Fruity, Sweet and Green accords.
To me this smells like a kitchen garden in June, when the rhubarb is ready. The rhubarb note is uncanny — tart, green, stalk-snapping fresh — with red berries ripening alongside, juicy and sun-warmed. Lantana adds a strange, herbal-floral twist, like weeds flowering at the garden's edge. White musk settles it clean, like a linen cloth over the pie dish. It's tartness as a virtue: crisp, mouth-watering, and completely original. There is nothing else quite like it — tartness, turned into a virtue and then into art. Beginner-friendly.
