Composition
Dolce Amalfi, from Xerjoff's Casamorati 1888 collection, is a fruity-spicy eau de parfum inspired by the Amalfi Coast. It opens with apple, saffron, quince and cardamom, develops a heart of cloves, incense and tolu balsam, and settles into vanilla, tonka bean, cedar, amber and musk.
To me this smells like Christmas in an Amalfi lemon grove — which makes no sense, and yet. Apple and quince, crisp and golden; saffron and cardamom and cloves, warm as a spice market; incense smoke curling through like a church door left open. Tolu balsam and vanilla and tonka melt underneath, sweet and resinous as panettone; cedar and amber and musk, warm and woody. It's sweet-spicy, rich, almost too much — the smell of a feast that goes on for days. Decadent, glowing, unapologetic. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
