Déclaration d'Un Soir by Cartier is a woody floral musk fragrance for men launched in October 2012 by perfumer Mathilde Laurent. It reprises the cold spices of the original Déclaration with a heady dose of rose: black pepper, cardamom and caraway open onto a heart of rose and nutmeg, settling into a creamy sandalwood base. Laurent revealed she created it to "make the heart beat faster and to drive men to speak their minds."
Scent story
To me this smells like an evening that starts at a spice market and ends somewhere far more formal. Cold black pepper and cardamom snap at the wrist first — green, electric, almost stern. Then the heart blooms: a rose dusted with nutmeg, warm and a little mischievous, like laughter behind a hand fan. The drydown is pure composure — creamy sandalwood smoothing everything into soft focus, the spices retreating to a whisper.
