Composition
Giorgio Armani Code (originally launched as Armani Black Code) is an oriental spicy eau de toilette for men, launched in 2004. It opens with lemon and bergamot, has a heart of star anise, olive blossom and guaiac wood, and a base of leather, tonka bean and tobacco. It is the original edition of the Armani Code line, distinct from the 2023 reissued Armani Code Eau de Toilette.
To me this smells like a secret told after midnight. Lemon and bergamot open bright, almost innocent, and then star anise twists everything — dark, licorice-sweet, mysterious — with olive blossom adding a strange green warmth. Guaiac wood smoulders underneath like a fuse. The base is pure after-dark: leather, tonka, tobacco, the inside of a jazz club at 2am. It is the scent of a plan you are not telling anyone about. A rewarding wear for the curious.
