To me this is a throne room at midnight — black cherry dark as wine spilled on marble, pink pepper snapping like a whip, saffron threading everything with gold. The rose at the heart is not a garden rose; it is a May rose crushed in a jeweled cup, peony and violet and cashmere wood arranged around it like courtiers. The base is incense and shadow: myrrh and frankincense from braziers along the walls, musk and ambroxan on warm skin. Regal, resinous, slightly dangerous — it demands a straight back and a slow blink. Power, bottled. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
