Composition
A masculine, leather-inspired fragrance by Pierre Montale: citrus fruits, Nepalese oud, fresh lavender, cinnamon and nutmeg open into Egyptian jasmine, violet, rose, marine notes and patchouli leaves, over vetiver, woody notes, leather, amber and white musk.
To me this is oud wearing a tuxedo. Citrus, lavender, cinnamon and nutmeg open almost conventionally, the spices warming it like a winter drink before the oud takes over, then Nepalese oud rises through jasmine, violet and rose, dark and unmistakable. Marine notes flicker strange against patchouli, and the base is vetiver, woods, leather, amber, musk. It tries to be a fresh-oud hybrid; the oud wins. Montale's oud is never background music, it is the lead singer, and it does not do subtle. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
