Composition
Paco Rabanne Black XS for Him is an oriental woody eau de toilette for men, launched in 2005. It opens with lemon and sage, has a heart of praline, cinnamon, black cardamom and tolu balsam, and a base of Brazilian rosewood, black amber and patchouli. It was repackaged in 2018 with the composition reportedly unchanged.
To me this smells like walking into a rock concert's backstage at midnight — lemon and sage cut through a haze of sweet praline. Cinnamon and black cardamom hit like the first guitar riff, dark and a little dangerous, while tolu balsam glues it all together like warm resin. Underneath, Brazilian rosewood and black amber smoulder like the stage lights going down, patchouli earthy and sweet at the edges. It is the scent of leather jackets and stolen kisses in the parking lot. Loud, sweet, unapologetic. Beginner friendly — just know it arrives before you do.
