Composition
Baccarat Rouge 540 is a unisex eau de parfum from Maison Francis Kurkdjian, launched in 2015. It opens with Saffron and Jasmine. The heart reveals Amberwood and Ambergris settling into a base of Fir Resin and Cedar. Its character is defined by Woody, Amber and Warm Spicy accords.
I have to be honest about this one: it's divisive for a reason. Saffron and jasmine open with that unmistakable medicinal-sweet blast — band-aids and burnt sugar, people say, and they're not wrong — and then amberwood and ambergris flood in, warm and mineral and enormous, like standing too close to a bonfire made of expensive wood. Fir resin and cedar dry it down into something smoky and resinous that lasts for days on a coat. It's iconic, it's polarizing, and it smells like nothing else. Love it or hate it, you'll never forget it. Not a first perfume. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
