Composition
Aoud is Roja Parfums' oriental-spicy parfum, launched in 2010 and composed by Roja Dove. It opens with a bright citrus trio of bergamot, lemon and lemon verbena before a floral heart of May rose, geranium, jasmine and ylang-ylang gives way to a long woody base built around agarwood (oud), saffron, leather, ambergris and vanilla. A unisex winter-evening scent that routinely lasts well over a day on skin.
Imagine the sharp spark of lemon squeezed over dark woods — then rose petals laid across warm leather, the air turning resinous and sweet with saffron and ambergris as hours pass. Aoud is grand and unhurried, like walking into a carpeted, wood-panelled room where oud smoke has soaked into the walls over decades. In Indian heat this is strictly a winter or late-night fragrance; one spray is plenty, and on a cool December evening it carries beautifully. Not for beginners — oud-averse noses should sample first, but those who love deep woody orientals will find it magnificent.
