Composition
Opus XII - Rose Incense is an oriental-floral eau de parfum for women and men by Bruno Jovanovic, launched in 2019 in The Library Collection. It opens with olibanum, a black ink accord and elemi, develops Damask rose and olibanum in the heart, and settles into myrrh, vanilla, sandalwood and cedar.
To me this smells like a scholar's desk in a candlelit library — olibanum and elemi burning first, and that black ink accord, strange and beautiful, like a fountain pen left uncapped. Damask rose blooms through the smoke, deep red and serious, and the base of myrrh, vanilla, sandalwood and cedar is pure parchment and candlewax. This is fragrance as literature. It rewards patience and punishes hurry. Elemi smokes through it all, resinous and faintly citrus, like church candles in an old stone chapel. Not for beginners — beginners stay away.
