Lemongrass
Lemongrass is a tropical grass whose oil smells intensely lemony but with a distinctive green, almost soapy sharpness quite different from true citrus. It is the scent of Thai cooking and Ayurvedic spas, fresh, clean and bracing with a slightly medicinal edge. In perfumery it creates powerful fresh and herbal compositions, though it must be used carefully as it can dominate. It is a staple of natural fresh scents and spa-like fragrances. In India, lemongrass is culturally familiar and performs well, its clean sharpness cuts through humidity effectively. However, in high heat it can turn slightly harsh, so the best lemongrass scents balance it with softer notes. A little goes a long way with this potent fresh note.
